The Youth corner
The voice of Erasmus students, an interactive event during the CATCH-EyoU Conference in Athens (March, 4, 2017)
The interactive session hosted within the 1st CATCH-EyoU Conference was aimed to understand how to foster the dialogue of young people with political institutions and identify the obstacles that young people find on their path toward political participation. The idea was to simulate a meeting between European DG representatives and a group of young people willing to make their voice heard.
Participants, 30 Erasmus students, either doing their Erasmus in Athens, or Greek students who recently spent their Erasmus in different European countries were divided into “commissioners” and “young people”. The “identified commissioners” were from the following DG: Education and Culture (EAC) Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion (EMPL), Justice and Consumers (JUST). “Young people” were splitted into five groups, corresponding to five key messages taken from the Blue Paper of WP3 on “Perspectives of policy makers on EU and on youth active citizenship”, with the task to convince the commissioner to implement them. Participants appreciated the experience that allowed them to know better the working mechanisms of European institutions and to be aware of the importance of being prepared with the appropriate skills to support their own ideas.
The simulation game was facilitated by Laura Birtolo and Alessandra Coppola, members of the Pool of Trainers of the Forum Nazionale Giovani.
